Ease In

Often in life we experience little nudges asking us to try something new. Our inner voice — the heart asking us to expand in some way. Maybe a new behavior, action or even new relationship with others or ourselves. Lately I’ve been feeling this push and ignoring it. How do you move into the new when you’re encountering hesitation, procrastination or resistance?

Walking barefoot on the beach the sand felt warm and soothing. The ocean was dazzling, clear blue with sun dancing off it, calling me to come play. I eased my toe in and immediately retracted it, “that’s cold!”

A few yards ahead of me, a couple casually walked into the water and started to swim. “Why can’t I do that?” I walked back to the damp sand at the water’s edge, “that’s ok.” After ½ mile, I put my foot in the water again, “not so bad.” A mile later, I was walking in the shallow water. It suddenly dawned on me; I just received a profound teaching from the ocean — just ease in.

Ease in

To quiet

The din

Just start, take one baby step forward. Make it an easy and comfortable one. Your mind and body will start to relax and maybe think “that’s not so bad.” Keeping the steps small and doable helps you move through the resistance.

Movement my dear

Dissipates

The fear

Commit to making one baby step a day. Don’t think about the “big picture”, just focus on that one step. Small steps add up to big movement. Before you know it, you’ll be walking into the new!
